Gas Topup vs Full Gas Refill: Prices and Differences Explained

If your technician says your AC needs gas, you may hear two options: a gas topup or a full refill. They are not the same job, and they do not cost the same. This article explains the difference and the prices for an AC gas topup in Ulwe or a full refill at Airenza Aircon.
What Is a Gas Topup?
A gas top-up is a partial charge. It adds gas to bring the system back to the correct pressure after a leak check. At Airenza, a gas top-up starts at ₹1,499 and includes a leak test, a pressure top-up and a cooling check.
What Is a Full Gas Refill?
A full gas refill means the system is charged completely. For a split AC using R32, R410A or R22, a full refill costs ₹3,500. It includes minor leak repair, vacuuming, a full charge, and a current and cooling test. This is the most booked gas option.
Leak Repair Plus Refill
For major leaks or coil leaks, the work is priced on inspection. It can include brazing or coil repair, a nitrogen pressure test and a full recharge.
Which One Do You Need?
The answer depends on how much gas is missing and where the leak is. If only a small amount is missing and the leak is minor, a top-up may be enough. If most of the gas has escaped, or the system has been opened for repair, a full refill with vacuuming is the right choice.
What Decides the Cost?
- The refrigerant type: R32, R410A or R22
- The AC's capacity
- How much gas is missing
- Where the leak is and how hard it is to repair
If the leak is at a joint or valve, the repair is usually quick. If the coil itself is leaking because of corrosion, it needs brazing or replacement, which is quoted separately.
Why the Leak Always Comes First
An AC does not use up gas, so low gas always means a leak. Airenza tells you where the leak is before refilling. Refilling without fixing the leak wastes money, leaks get worse over time, and low gas strains the compressor. A correct charge gives the best cooling.
How the Gas Is Charged
The technician vacuums the lines to remove air and moisture, then charges the correct refrigerant by weight and pressure for your model. The current draw and the vent temperature are checked at the end.
Signs You Need Gas
- Weak cooling
- Ice on the pipes
- The AC runs non-stop
- Oil marks at joints
Prices at a Glance
- Gas top-up: from ₹1,499
- Full gas refill: ₹3,500 for a split AC
- Leak repair plus refill: on inspection
A Word on Very Cheap Offers
A very low gas price often means no leak test and no vacuuming. The AC may cool for a short time and then lose the gas again. Paying for a proper leak check and correct charging usually works out cheaper over a full season.
How the Visit Works
You call or WhatsApp and pick a time slot. The technician tests the system, finds the leak and explains whether a top-up or full refill is needed. You approve the price before any work starts.
Either way, the technician checks the current draw and the air temperature at the vents after charging, so you can see the AC is cooling properly before the visit ends.

Final Thoughts
A gas topup and a full refill are different jobs at different prices. The right choice depends on how much gas is missing and where the leak is. Whichever you need, finding and fixing the leak first is what makes the cooling last.
